The Portal of Mabon
Tarot Spread for the Autumn Equinox
*Created by Nimue
It is the Autumnal Equinox or Mabon on the Celtic calendar,
a point of equilibrium.
The day and night have met in balance
but now the dark grows and the light of day shortens.
This is the final harvest.
In Celtic myth, Mabon is the son (Sun)
and Modron is the mother (Earth mother).
At this time Modron laments the loss of her son Mabon,
taken soon after he was born.
He has actually gone into her magical womb to be reborn
as her champion-The Son of Light.

The wheel turns once again.
It is Mabon, the Autumn Equinox
and we stand in reflection
of our fruitfulness this past year.
What do we have to be grateful for?
As the earth moves into perfect balance
with the sun and the dark shadows light,
we ask our Lord
who prepares to leave the yellowing wood
and spiral into the caves of Samhain
and our Lady who’s love is timeless
tho’ she prepares for the sleep of winter
to let us embrace this night with
our understanding of beauty, grace and love.
Allow these qualities of Libra’s equilibrium
to infuse each one of us
so that we may find our way
as we move quietly inward,
toward the twilight of Autumn’s song.
Mabon Circle Casting
I cast this circle once
In the name of Pan and Artemis
Of the wild and the wood
May they join our hands in our temple
I cast this circle twice
In the name of Hades and Persephone
Take us to our shadows
So that they may be released!
I cast this circle thrice
In the name of Mabon
Let there be thanksgiving
In your honor alone here this night!
Bless and protect our circle!
